During Bob Ross's tenure on the PBS television show, "The Joy of Painting," which ran for 31 seasons, he crafted over 1,143 original landscape paintings. Four of the painter's typical themes have been acquired by the Smithsonian,. together with some of his memorabilia, which will be displayed in an upcoming exhibition.
Ross, who died in 1995, inspired a generation of people to pick up a paint brush. Ross wanted to show people that anybody can paint a picture that they are proud of. He said, "It may never hang in the Smithsonian, but it will certainly be something that they'll hang in their home and be proud of. And that's what it's all about."
